What You Need to Know About STDs
STD statistics seem to show an upward trend year after year in the US and other places in the world. With the rise of cases of syphilis in men and women, STD statistics just seems to get higher and highter. Part of the STD statistics is the rise in cases of chlamydia, as well as gonorrhea.
There may also be a problem as far as STD statistics is concerned. There are chances that the current STD statistics do not have a number of undetected cases because STDs like Chlamydia rarely develop symptoms. Needless to say the rise in the numbers are still alarming.
The STD statistics then shows that many people around you may be suffering from either gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphilis. For example there was one year in the United States where there were about a million people who have been diagnosed with Chlamydia. That number was obviously higher than the one that was recorded a year ago. Moreover, about 350,000 had gonorrhea in that same year. The numbers seem to grow steadily over the last decade.
The STD statistics also show that the most common among STDS is chlamydia and gonorrhea. Though chlamydia rarely shows symptoms, it is easy to detect. Gonorrhea, like chlamydia is also easy to be medically identified. The good news is that when diagnosed early, they can be treated. If these diseases are not cured it can lead to other health issues like in women, PID or pelvic inflammatory disease and possibly infertility in both men and women. Women may see more complications like ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain.
Although men suffer from chlamydia less, this does not mean that they can’t be affected by complications. Meanwhile, gonorrhea can lead to very serious complications in men. if left untreated, it can lead to infertility or it can travel to the blood stream and the joints. In worst cases it can lead to death.
What is the moral lesson in this story? This goes to show that awareness about STDs should be increased. Awareness helps people avoid these kinds of diseases as well as informs people of the necessary steps to take if they get these diseases.
With the heightened cases of STDs, more and more people should choose to exercise safety. The statistic simple try to tell people to as much as possible avoid having multiple partners. It also helps to learn how to properly use a condom.
Moreover, people should also get themselves checked when they have a new partner. And if your partner had been cheating, get yourself screened as well. Take note that the statistics will continue to rise until everyone will do their part.
